What classes and grade level(s) do you teach?
I provide individual and small group remedial instruction in Language Arts and Math for students in grades K-8 and teach Study Skills to 6th grade middle school students.
What do you love most about Grace Christian School?
I really enjoy seeing students, families, and faculty support each other in making Grace Christian School a great place to learn and grow spiritually.
Why do you like teaching at Grace Christian School?
I like teaching at Grace Christian School because of the respect shown for school policies, procedures, and discipline which enables me to concentrate on overseeing interesting Study Skills classes and developing effective methods to support students who want or need tutoring help.
What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
Being a student myself while also being on staff at Grace Christian School has helped me identify with our students. I have been motivated by opportunities at Grace Christian School to seek ongoing training to help struggling learners. This led to my achieving professional certification in Educational Therapy Levels 1-3 with the National Institute for Learning Development; certification in the Barton Reading and Spelling Program and Screening for Dyslexia; affiliation with Learning Ally and CHADD (Children and Adult with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) ; and attendance with Grace Christian School teachers at ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) conferences, webinars, and on-site training workshops. Other life experiences which have helped me identify with students include activities with my own daughter and son – home schooling them from 2nd grade to college, sports, youth group, Sunday School, Boy Scouts, music lessons, recitals, and hosting a variety of missionaries and exchange students.
How does “Faith and Learning Connect” in your role at Grace Christian School?
It is a privilege to be able to infuse prayer into tutoring sessions with students and discussions of study/life skills with middle school students. Often before academic issues can be addressed, students and I need a time of shared prayer to guide our purpose for learning. Other times, if impediments to learning are undisclosed, I still pray for God to reveal what the students and I should do. I am always rethinking approaches to help students achieve a breakthrough or strengthen their walk with Him. It is a blessing to be able to rely on His perfect timing and sufficient provision of grace and mercy.
What sets Grace Christian School students apart from other students?
What sets Grace Christian School students apart from other students is reflected in the large picture of students’ portraits near the front office. Their smiling faces beam from experiences shared while at Grace Christian School. Another place where their enthusiasm is showcased is on the school's website in pictures and videos of field trips, special events, performances, achievement ceremonies, and while volunteering and serving Him in our community.
